“Sea to Shore Stories” Modern Art Exhibition

When the sea is transformed into a source rich of artistic expression

The sea, love and the eternal eye of the artist

The beauty of nature, the hug of the sea, the rejuvening seaside are some of the simple, but important elements of life that becomes inspiration for artistic creation. As they were the inspiration for the modern art exhibition “Sea to Shore Stories” by Ioannidis Kostas; a multi-faceted art project that it took place in July of 2016, at the Minos Beach art hotel in Agios Nikolaos, Crete, under the curation of Katerina Gregou.

The project has significant presence in various parts of the hotel, creating a ‘path’ that awakens all the senses, constituting a hymn to love and its motivational power.

Τhe route starts at the hotel reception, where guests will meet the Everlasting Song, a video projection about the tale The Fisherman and His Soul, where Oscar Wilde uniquely describes the magic of the world who lives under the surface of the water.

The exhibition continues submerged under the waters of Agios Nikolaos, where one can admire the work Lost Ears of Agios Nikolaos, an underwater sculptural installation. This is the sequel to a project that Ioannidis started in 1992 in Paleopolis, Andros, that consisted of nine concrete ears, immersed in the sea of the ancient city of Andros. Today just two of the ears remain, and the fate of the other seven is unknown.

The third part of the exhibition is the Hanging Gardens project, an underwater sound installation that the guests of the hotel will have the chance to enjoy. The aim of the project is to create a sound environment in which the swimmer – listener is “transferred” into a magical underwater garden.

The exhibition will remain at the permanent collection of the G. & A. Mamidakis Foundation and will be hosted at Minos Beach art hotel.
